How visual design is like pitching a baseball
I am married to an amazing human who is also known as a very talented baseball pitcher. We enjoy both baseball and design very much. A few years ago we were watching a game (Red Sox) and discussing the art of pitching the ball. While Dominic was describing a pitching strategy, I realized that there are a lot of principles that run parallel to how I create visual compositions. That is the exact moment that I began adopting baseball pitching tactics into my visual design and communication compositions, quite literally.

A journey map is a visual diagram or visualization we use to document the steps a person goes through to accomplish a task or goal. This is a qualitative research exercise and we use it to unlock insights and opportunities to improve user experiences. We can visually identify the specific frustrating touch points and isolate friction for our teams.

Web Stories: How to Own, Share, Publish, Categorize, Search, Present, Consume, Advertise, Socialize, and Prevent Abuse on Potential Platforms
My first opportunity to work with Google & XWP teams to build and design Web Stories (formerly known as AMP Stories for WordPress) was in 2018 during pre-ALPHA stages of development.
Immediately I am asking the team questions about how people were going to be consuming and sharing stories. Basically, what are we working towards? Having joined the team in the middle of some engagement as we worked through some development sprints I realized this needed to be clarified. Ideally we should all be pulling towards the same flag for efficiency and clear understanding. However when working at the edge of the web, sometimes that is part of the challenge too. At this stage we are working to make Stories Open Source and to empower 1/3 of the web with the ability to both own and publish their own stories using WordPress. Excellent work!

Documenting Web Stories ‘The WordPress Way‘ and sharing the UX tactics and strategies along the way…
This post will be updated frequently. Last Update: June 24th 2019
This is the beginning of our notes for some testing we are doing of early versions of AMP Stories. Specifically for the plugin for WordPress. We are working for the purpose of contributing to improving the exciting work being done. Some important UX work can make development work more concise and better informed thanks to usability testing and strategic UX tactics.

This spring I spent time contributing to The WordPress Governance Project. WordPress has grown a lot over the course of my career. I have been working with WordPress and working on the web since 2004. Like many others, I have sacrificed personal time while feeling fortunate to be able to contribute back to the community in various roles. I currently work as a Consultant and UX Architect with some distinguished teams.

I think I may have coined the term Nano Sprint!
I love the Nano Sprint, a UX design tactic especially for product designers working with lean, Agile teams that know how to work smarter and communicate well.
The Nano Sprint is a unique and efficient design tactic. It is useful as a lead in, side, or validating tactic during development cycles (or whenever you need to roll it out!). It involves Design Thinking and a sequence of activities dependent on the resources and priorities for that specific project. This is very useful for us working on product designs in evolving versions.
